NHL Trade Rumors: 2 Detroit Red Wings Trade Candidates for 2024-25

The Detroit Red Wings are looking to take another step forward this season as general manager Steve Yzerman has been re-tooling on the fly for the past few seasons. The time is now for the Wings to get over the hump and back into the Stanley Cup Playoff picture.

Yzerman has been aggressive on the trade market the past few seasons and don't expect to see him slowing down anytime soon. As the 2024-25 season approaches, here's two players out of Detroit who could be moved at some point:

Justin Holl

Any Holl trade needs to be either a swap of bad contracts or Yzerman is going to have to add a sweetener to the deal, and it will be a big one. Holl signed a three-year deal with the Wings last summer and not even a couple of months into his new deal became a healthy scratch. He finished last season dressing in just 38 games, collecting five assists. Holl has two seasons left on his deal at $3.4 million AAV and also has a 12-team no-trade clause, thanks to some handy work from his agent.

Ville Husso

When Cam Talbot signed a two-year deal in Detroit this summer, it put the writing on Husso's wall. The veteran netminder hasn't been able to stay healthy or produce consistently since arriving in Detroit. He has one season left on his deal at $4.75 million and does hold a modified 10-team no-trade clause. Look for the Red Wings to potentially carry three goalies again until they can find Husso a home. Alex Lyon is also in the mix, as is Jack Campbell who signed a free-agent deal. Yzerman has depth, but is it talented enough?
