NHL Trade Rumors: 2 New York Rangers Trade Candidates Heading into 2024-25

The New York Rangers will once again be one of the favorites coming out of the Eastern Conference next season. GM Chris Drury has been busy trying to re-tool on the fly this summer and while the Rangers have missed out on several free agents, the team is still one of the deepest in the league.

Drury hasn't been shy trying to make trades throughout his tenure and his aggressiveness will continue throughout next season. Here's two Rangers trade candidates who could be in play next season:

Kaapo Kakko

Kakko's first five seasons in New York have not gone as planned and his development curve was not what the Rangers were expecting for a second-overall pick in 2019. Last season, Kakko recorded just 19 points in 61 games and while Drury re-signed Kakko at $2.4 million, he only gave him a one-year deal and didn't extend him further. If Kakko struggles to open next season, look for the Rangers to field trade offers on their one-time top prospect.

Jacob Trouba

Drury tried to move Trouba throughout the summer and it ended up getting quite complicated with some family dimensions involved. Trouba has two seasons left on his contract at $8 million AAV and does hold a 15-team no-trade clause. It goes down to a 12-team clause after this upcoming season, but to this point, the Trouba train isn't in motion. If Drury had his way, he'd likely have already named a new captain ahead of training camps opening in a few weeks.
