NHL Trade Rumors: 2 St Louis Blues Trade Candidates

The St Louis Blues have been relatively quiet so far this offseason as general manager Doug Armstrong hasn't done much to upgrade his roster.

The Blues missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season and are hopeful their core can bounce back and get them back into the playoff picture in the Western Conference. Armstrong still has $7.3 million in cap space and could leverage this on the trade market heading into the 2024-25 season or shortly after the season begins.

Here's two trade candidates for the Blues heading into next year:

Justin Faulk

With Torey Krug requiring surgery and with the potential to miss the entire season, the Blues are going to need a number of defensemen to carry the load. Should St Louis falter and struggle to start the season, there's a very good chance Armstrong will look to re-tool his defense core. Justin Faulk is a trade candidate despite having a no-movement clause that changes to a 15-team no-trade clause in 2025-26. Faulk has three seasons left on his deal at $6.5 million against the cap.

Jordan Binnington

Joel Hofer is waiting in the wings to take over as the full-time starter in St Louis and with Binnington having three seasons left on his contract at $6 million, he's slowly but surely becoming a trade candidate for the Blues. Hofer is 24 and would be a much cheaper option over this span. The NHL's goalie market was turned on it's head this summer and there was some speculation that Binnington was in play, however no deal materialized. That could be changing if the Blues don't get off to a good start next season.
