NHL Trade Rumors: Sabres & Flyers Linked As Potential Trade Partners

The Buffalo Sabres have a restricted free agent that might be pushed out of the lineup, while the Philadelphia Flyers have an expensive forward that they're looking to deal to clear up some cap space.

And with that, a trade rumor is born. In fact, the Peyton Krebs to Philly part of this rumor dates back to the trade deadline. Now, the restricted free agent remains unsigned, and could be forced to simply accept the Sabres' qualifying offer of $874,125. But as noted by Michael Augello of The Hockey News, there might not be room for Krebs in the lineup this coming season after the Sabres' additions of Ryan McLeod, Beck Malenstyn and Sam Lafferty this summer.

Are the Flyers still interested? And if so, might Buffalo want to take Joel Farabee and his $5 million cap hit over the next four years off Philly's hands?

While Krebs finished with just 17 points in 80 games this past season for the Sabres, Farabee set career highs with 22 goals and 50 points. But after handing out a huge $70 million extension to Travis Konecny this offseason ($8.75 million cap hip over eight years), the Flyers will be looking to ease up the cap crunch, and Farabee is seen as a prime contender to be moved.

And certainly, as Augello notes, the Sabres could use a goal scorer to replace the departed Jeff Skinner, who they bought out last month.

All of this could be food for thought and the beginnings of a trade discussion for the front offices in Philly and Buffalo.
