NHL Trade Rumors: Wild Could Be Changing Tone On Trading Filip Gustavsson

According to recent reports by Joe Smith and Shayna Goldman of The Athletic, the Minnesota Wild appear to be shifting their stance on trading goaltender Filip Gustavsson.

Initially considered a trade candidate following the re-signing of veteran Marc-Andre Fleury and with top prospect Jesper Wallstedt poised for NHL action, Gustavsson now seems more likely to remain with the team for the upcoming season.

Last season, Gustavsson recorded an .899 SV%, 3.06 GAA, three shutouts, and a 20-18-4 record over 45 games played.

This change could reflect the Wild's desire to maintain depth and flexibility in their goaltending lineup as they work through a transitional phase.

Their decision to potentially retain Gustavsson could be several factors, the main one being Fleury approaching his 40th birthday and expected to play a reduced role in what is likely to be his final NHL season.

Keeping Gustavsson provides the Wild with a reliable and experienced option between the pipes, while allowing Wallstedt to continue his development without the immediate pressure of a full-time starting position.

Over his four-year career, the 26-year-old holds a .912 SV%, 2.73 GAA, six shutouts, and a 52-40-14 record across 111 games played.
