NHL Trade Rumors: Yaroslav Askarov Linked To Two More Teams

Yaroslav Askarov, the highly-touted goaltending prospect of the Nashville Predators, has reportedly requested a trade, citing frustrations over his limited path to an NHL starting role following Nashville's decision to extend Juuse Saros with a long-term contract and sign veteran Scott Wedgewood as backup.

Askarov, who was drafted 11th overall in 2020 and has excelled at every level, including the AHL, is eager for an opportunity to prove himself in the NHL, a chance that seems increasingly unlikely with the Predators' current goaltending depth.

In light of Askarov's trade request, two additional teams have emerged as potential suitors.

Julian Gaudio of The Hockey News suggests that the Seattle Kraken should pursue Askarov, given their ongoing struggles in goal.

Philipp Grubauer has underperformed relative to his contract, and while Joey Daccord had a strong season, he remains largely unproven at the NHL level. Acquiring Askarov would provide the Kraken with a top-tier goaltending prospect who could immediately bolster their roster and potentially develop into their franchise netminder.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Bailey of Philly Hockey Now argues that the Philadelphia Flyers should also consider acquiring Askarov, especially given the uncertainty surrounding their own goaltending prospects, particularly Alexei Kolosov.

With Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov currently leading the Flyers’ goaltending tandem, Askarov could be a crucial addition for a team in the midst of a rebuild. Bailey notes that the Flyers might need to include Ersson in a trade package, but the potential of securing a future elite NHL goaltender like Askarov makes it a risk worth taking for the franchise.
