Sam Gagner Says He Has Several PTO Offers

35-year-old forward Sam Gagner completed his 17th season in the National Hockey League and third stint with the Edmonton Oilers this past year. Now, as he remains unsigned as a UFA this summer, he's itching to get back into an NHL uniform, and has told Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal that he has some choices:

I'm still hoping to play again... I feel really good, so we will see what happens in the next month or so. I have some PTO offers and hopefully I can get a contract.

Gagner obviously has no plans to hang up the skates just yet.

He was in Oilers camp on a PTO (professional tryout) last fall, and did wind up signing with Edmonton for his third tour of duty in Oil Town, playing in 28 games and notching 10 points in 10:13 of ice time per contest. It was only two years prior that Gagner played a full 81 games for the Detroit Red Wings, putting up 13 goals and 31 points in 13:37 average ice time per night.

There might not be a 4th go-round in Edmonton, but from the sounds of it, Gagner has a few offers to sort through and will be in an NHL camp somewhere come late September.

In addition to his 564 career games with the Oilers (327 points), Gagner has also suited up for the Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit, and the Winnipeg Jets. In 1,043 games in total, he has 197 goals and 529 points.

He was the 6th overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (yes, by the Oilers).
