Seattle Kraken: 2 Breakout Candidates for Next Season

With each season that passes, it seems that every NHL team has at least one player break out and become a crucial part of their roster. The 2024-25 season should offer more of the same, so we here at NHL Trade Rumors will be looking at a few breakout candidates from each NHL club heading into the new campaign.

In this latest edition of the series, the Seattle Kraken will be the team of discussion.

Matty Beniers: After posting 57 points and winning the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2022-23, the expectation was that Matty Beniers would blossom into a star this past season. Instead, his offense dipped in 2023-24, as he posted 15 goals and 37 points in 77 games. While things were a bit shaky for the 2021 second-overall pick, he not only has the potential to bounce back next season but hit a new level offensively.

Shane Wright: Shane Wright is another clear breakout candidate for the Kraken this upcoming season. The 2022 fourth-overall pick played well when given the chance in the NHL this past season, recording four goals and an assist in eight games. The expectation is that the Burlington, Ontario native will get more reps at the NHL level next season. When noting that he is a top prospect who has played very well at the AHL level, it would not be surprising in the slightest if he blossomed into an impactful player for the Kraken next season.
