Sharks Rumors: Mikael Granlund Becoming Prime Trade Candidate

The San Jose Sharks have had a busy offseason, as they have added players like Tyler Toffoli, Cody Ceci, Alexander Wennberg, Barclay Goodrow, Jake Walman, and Carl Grundstrom. They also have top prospects Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith joining the NHL squad, so they certainly look a bit better on paper.

However, while the Sharks have many new faces, they are still very much rebuilding and are expected to be among the worst clubs in the NHL in 2024-25. Because of this, one clear player to watch in the rumor mill for this upcoming season is forward Mikael Granlund.

Granlund, 32, is entering the final season of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent next summer if not re-signed by July 1. When noting that he is coming off a strong season and in his 30s, the Sharks could look to move him to land assets that will benefit their rebuild.

Granlund appeared in 69 games this past season with the Sharks, where he had 12 goals to go along with 60 points. With numbers like these, he could be a strong addition to a playoff team's middle six. This is especially so when noting that he can play both down the middle and on the wing.

We will now need to wait and see what the Sharks end up doing with Granlund during his contract year from here.
