TRADE: Oilers Acquire Vasily Podkolzin from Canucks

The Edmonton Oilers have made a move, as they have acquired forward Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Podkolzin, 23, was selected by the Canucks with the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The expectation was that he would be a long-term part of the Canucks' top six, but he has struggled to break out at the NHL level. Now, he will look to do so as a member of the Oilers from here.

Podkolzin appeared in 19 games this past season with the Canucks, where he had two assists to go along with a minus-4 rating and 70 hits. He primarily spent this past season down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Abbotsbord Canucks, where he had 15 goals and 28 points in 44 games.

Podkolzin will now provide the Oilers with another option for their bottom six during the 2024-25 season. However, when noting that he is a former top prospect who is still just 23 years old, he has the potential to become more than that.

This move is also significant because the Oilers still need to make their decisions with the offer sheets signed by Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. This Podkolzin addition naturally raises some eyebrows when it comes to Holloway specifically.
