TRADE: Sharks Acquire Yaroslav Askarov From Predators

The Nashville Predators have traded Yaroslav Askarov, Nolan Burke, and a 2025 third-round pick to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for David Edstrom, Magnus Chrona, and a 2025 first-round pick (from the Vegas Golden Knights).

Askarov, 22, recently requested a trade from the Predators. With the Predators signing Juuse Saros to an eight-year contract extension earlier this summer, it is understandable that Askarov, a goalie who has the potential to become a true NHL starter, wanted a change of scenery. Now, he should get the chance to shine as a member of the rebuilding Sharks.

Askarov spent the majority of this past season down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Milwaukee Admirals, where he posted a 30-13-1 record, a .911 save percentage (SV%), and a 2.39 goals-against average (GAA). He also had a .911 SV% for the AHL squad in 48 games for them during the 2022-23 season, so he understandably feels ready to make the jump to the NHL.

Askarov has three career NHL games on his resume, where he has a 1-1-0 record, a 2.58 GAA, and a .914 SV%.

It will be very interesting to see how much of an impact Askarov can make for the Sharks from here, but he certainly has the potential to be their long-term answer between the pipes.
