Vancouver Canucks: 3 Breakout Candidates for Next Season

With each season that passes, it seems that every NHL team has at least one player break out and become a crucial part of their roster. The 2024-25 season should offer more of the same, so we here at NHL Trade Rumors will be looking at three breakout candidates from each NHL club heading into the new campaign.

In this latest edition of the series, the Vancouver Canucks will be the team of focus.

Arturs Silovs: Arturs Silovs was a great story for the Canucks last season. With Thatcher Demko and Casey DeSmith suffering injuries during the playoffs, Silovs was called upon to step in. Overall, the 23-year-old did a good job, as he led the Canucks past the Nashville Predators in the first round before falling to the Edmonton Oilers. Overall, it was a good start for the Riga, Latvia native, and he could take a big step forward next season, as he is expected to be their full-time backup.

Vasily Podkolzin: Vasily Podkolzin has yet to cement himself a permanent spot on the Canucks' roster, but perhaps things could change on that front in 2024-25. The 23-year-old was selected 10th overall by the Canucks for a reason, and the potential for him to become a solid NHLer is still there. Now, it will be interesting to see if he takes that next step and becomes a key part of the Canucks' roster next season.

Nils Hoglander: Nils Hoglander was one of the many bright spots of the Canucks' 2023-24 season. The 23-year-old winger took a big step forward in his development, posting new career highs with 24 goals and 36 points in 80 games. With numbers like these, he showed the Canucks that he can be an impactful scorer in the NHL, and it would not be shocking if he hit an even higher level for them in 2024-25 from here.
