3 Boston Bruins Prospects Expected To Get NHL Playing Time In 2024-25
As the Boston Bruins have been good for so long, it is hard to find great prospects to fill their lineup. Some have gotten through and been strong additions to the team as recently as last season, but there is opportunity for more to get into NHL games in 2024-25. These are three that are expected to see NHL action this season for the Bruins.
Georgi Merkulov
As an undrafted center, Georgi Merkulov got into four games for the Bruins last season amidst a great AHL season. The 23-year-old scored 30 goals and 65 points in 67 games after putting up 24 goals and 55 points in his first AHL season in 2022-23. He didn't produce offensively in his four games given his 10 minutes of ice time and bottom-6 role on the Bruins, but there is room for him to get a better look this season with the questionable bottom-6 Boston has. He is at a point where the Bruins need to see how he does in the NHL because he's done so well in the minors.
Fabian Lysell
The Bruins have to be excited about the next first-round pick that should make a difference on the team in Fabian Lysell. He is the team's top prospect, drafted in 2021, and took a nice step forward in his second AHL season, improving by one goal and 13 points. He finished last season with 15 goals and 50 points in 55 games for Providence and has yet to see NHL action. The Bruins will very likely call him up at some point and place him on the third line at worst where he can still contribute offensively without hurting his confidence.
Brandon Bussi
Given his age (26), Brandon Bussi is hardly a prospect anymore, but while posting great numbers in the AHL for three seasons now, he hasn't gotten into an NHL game yet. The Bruins have a starter and backup this season, but Jeremy Swayman also happens to not be signed yet. I think he is going to get some sort of contract, so even if Bussi starts the season as the third-string goalie, he's going to get the callup and this time get into a game. He has been called up and not got into a game two seasons in a row now and he's ready to be given a chance against NHL shooters.
