3 New York Islanders Prospects Expected To Get NHL Playing Time In 2024-25

The New York Islanders have struggled building a strong system with how they've drafted and where the team has drafted. That being said, the team is still old and young players will have to eventually step in and step up to turn the Islanders in a positive direction. There are three prospects the team has who we could see in the NHL this season, even if for just a short time.

Maxim Tsyplakov

Maxim Tsyplakov is a very interesting prospect the Islanders have acquired. He is undrafted and has spent parts of the last seven seasons in the KHL. He is only 25 years old and just last season scored 31 goals and 47 points in 65 games. If there is one thing the Islanders need, it's scoring and this Russian can provide that given the chance. He should get a very good look this season as there are some other younger forwards who have just not lived up to expectations.

William Dafour

William Dafour had a great 2022-23 season in the AHL, earning him a game for the Islanders that season. He took a step back in 2023-24, but that doesn't mean he also doesn't bring a power forward element to the game. It looks like he could eventually fit in on the bottom-6 for the Islanders and might get a very short look again this season. For a similar reason to why Tsyplakov will get time, some young options up front for the Islanders just haven't looked great in the NHL.

Calle Odelius

Calle Odelius has struggled with injuries, but was a great pick in the third round a couple of years ago. He is in North America this season and even though he will have to adjust to the AHL first, a couple of games later in the season is not out of the question. He should be a piece on the back-end in the future for the Islanders.
