3 Players Entering Final Season With Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets have a lot of work to do over the next couple of years to keep this team competitive. There are a ton of contracts ending and as many well know, it is tough to keep players in Winnipeg or bring players to Winnipeg. That being said, there are three players on the team entering their final season with the Jets.
Alex Iafallo
Alex Iafallo had a very poor year and his lowest point total since his rookie season. It was his first season with the Jets after being a part of the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade and he now finds himself on the fourth line. Iafallo only scored 11 goals and 27 points in 82 games while averaging over 15 minutes per game. There are a number of above average players that contributed more with equal or less playing time last season, which should make Iafallo have another season in which he finds it difficult to contribute. He is overpaid right now and the Jets will likely just cut ties after the season.
Vlad Namestnikov
Vlad Namestnikov may be a tough one to let go, but he is playing in a role that exceeds his skillset. He is not a true number two center, but the Jets are very thin down the middle and he will get his shot. His faceoff percentage is horrible, but he still does well for what he's paid. It will be interesting to find out just how much he thinks he's worth and how much Winnipeg does after a season with a heavier workload. Either way, he produced his second-highest points in a season in 2023-24, so he might have peaked and bound to regress this season.
Axel Jonsson-Fjallby
Axel Jonsson-Fjallby didn't contribute much to the Jets last season. In his second season in Winnipeg, he played just 26 games, scoring two goals and five points. He is a depth player that shouldn't be in the starting 12 forwards, debatably even in the minors at this point. If he only plays just over eight minutes per game again, there is really no reason to keep him around and have him take up a spot over another younger player.
