3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Kevin Lankinen

The 2024-25 NHL season is around the corner, meanwhile there's several free agents who are without contracts as training camps loom. This includes goaltender Kevin Lankinen.

The 29-year-old netminder spent the past two seasons with the Nashville Predators and in 2023-24 went 11-6-0 with a .908 Sv.% and one shutout. Lankinen is expected to at least land a PTO for training camp and could wind up joining one of the following teams:

Vancouver Canucks

There's been some speculation brewing that the Canucks are looking for a third option in net as they navigate both Thatcher Demko and Arturs Silovs working their way through offseason ailments. The Canucks have only $190,000 in cap space and will certainly need to make a move or two if they plan on keeping Lankinen on their NHL roster when the season starts. A two-way contract is much more likely if it ends up being Vancouver.

Colorado Avalanche

The Avs aren't the deepest team in the crease as Alexander Georgiev hasn't necessarily taken the bull by the horns since taking over as the starter in Colorado. There's also Justus Annunen in the mix as well as the 24-year-old will look to push Georgiev for minutes. Lankinen could crank up the heat on both netminders should he be added for training camp.

Seattle Kraken

The Kraken need a save. Philip Grubauer hasn't been able to live up to expectations and Joey Daccord in somewhat inexperienced, despite his solid play last season. Lankinen could be brought in on a tryout to ramp up the internal competition at camp and put some pressure on a few of the Kraken goaltenders who haven't been able to consistently produce the past couple of seasons.
