3 Potential Trade Destinations for Canadiens' David Savard

Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard has been the subject of trade rumors for quite some time, and it is only continuing with training camp. With the Canadiens having several young defenders on the rise and Savard entering the final season of his deal, he could be a valuable player for the Habs to trade. Let's discuss three potential landing spots for the right-shot defenseman because of it.

Winnipeg Jets: The Winnipeg Jets could make a lot of sense as a suitor for Savard. It is no secret that the right side of their defense could use a boost, and Savard would give them that. In addition, Savard does not have any trade protection, so he could be the perfect defense target for the Jets. He would give them another option for their top four and penalty kill if acquired.

Edmonton Oilers: The Edmonton Oilers have been linked to Savard in the past, and it would not be surprising if they targeted him again. They have a clear hole on the right side of their defense, so bringing in a player like Savard could make sense for them. After trading Cody Ceci and losing Philip Broberg to the St. Louis Blues through an offer sheet, adding a defenseman should be a big priority for Edmonton.

Ottawa Senators: The Ottawa Senators also could use some help on the right side of their defense. If they acquired Savard, he would work well on their second pairing and be a key part of their penalty kill. With the Senators looking to take that next step and become a playoff team again, adding a solid shutdown defender like Savard could be worthwhile.
