A “Major” Update on Canucks’ Thatcher Demko

The Vancouver Canucks have had to navigate through some goaltending issues this summer, as starter Thatcher Demko's rehab from his knee injury suffered in the playoffs had been going slower than expected. His status for the start of the season has been in question.

But Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal has a positive update for us.
Some good news, I'm hearing that Thatcher Demko is back skating and working out on the ice this week. That's a very good sign. Many people thought that Demko wouldn't be ready for training camp and preseason. (This) has got to be a major boost to the Canucks and a sign of progress as well... Major, major good news for the Canucks.

Demko was injured in the first game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and never returned, due to a mysterious and rare knee injury.

Arturs Silovs took over for the remainder of the playoffs, and fared well. He would be expected to take over the No. 1 spot between the pipes if Demko is not ready. But Silovs also suffered an injury, just last week, in preparation for an Olympic qualifying tournament this past weekend for Latvia.

Dhaliwal has an update on Silovs as well, saying he's "dealing with inflammation in his knee, but "it's not expected that it's a serious injury," and he should be arriving in Vancouver this week to get checked out by team doctors.

Meanwhile, their pursuit of UFA netminder Kevin Lankinen continues as well.
