Alex Stalock Hangs Up The Pads

He hasn't played an NHL game since the 2022-23 season, now Alex Stalock has retired from the league for good, instead taking up a position in the broadcast booth with the San Jose Sharks.

Although no official announcement has come, Max Miller of The Hockey News indicates that Stalock's new radio gig is the signal that his playing days are over. The goaltender will be one of Dan Rusanowsky’s alternating color commentators for the Sharks Audio Network.

Stalock spent last season toiling in the American Hockey League, where he struggled to a 2-9-2 mark with a 3.82 goals against average and an .888 save percentage with the San Diego Gulls.

The 37-year-old netminder spent the first five seasons of his professional career with the Sharks, and made a one-game return there in 2021-22. He also played four seasons with the Minnesota Wild, where he recorded his most productive year in 2019-20 with a 20-11-4 mark along with a .910 save percentage and 2.67 GAA in 38 starts.

He sat out the entire 2020-21 season with complications from COVID-19.

In his final NHL season, 2022-23, he went 9-15-2 with a 3.01 GAA and a .908 Sv% for the Chicago Blackhawks.
