The top-pairing defenseman took one less year than the max, as a trade off for coming in just under teammate Dylan Larkin's $8.7M AAV, which is what we'd been hearing was GM Steve Yzerman's plan.
Seider was the 6th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and made his impact felt immediately, winning the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie in 2021-22. He's topped the 40-point mark in all three of his seasons, while taking on a huge workload for a young d-man, averaging nearly 23 minutes of ice time per game, and playing in each and every one of the 82 contests in each season.
In 2023-24, he potted 9 goals to go with 33 assists for 42 points.
That leaves just four RFAs unsigned as camps get underway: Jeremy Swayman with the Boston Bruins, Cole Perfetti of the Winnipeg Jets, the New Jersey Devils' Dawson Mercer and Nikita Alexandrov of the St. Louis Blues.
