Bruins Reveal That Brad Marchand Had Multiple Surgeries This Offseason

Brad Marchand faced the media today in Boston for the first time this summer. And what a summer it was for the Bruins' captain. He underwent not one, not two, but three separate surgeries.

Marchand played through a torn tendon in his elbow all season, while also suffering groin and abdominal injuries late in the regular season. All three required him to go under the knife this offseason. Somehow, he still managed to play all 82 regular-season games, though he did miss two playoff contests.

The captain seems to be all patched up, however, and says he hopes to be ready for the start of camp in a couple of weeks, or shortly thereafter.

“This is a fun time of year getting back to the rink and a lot of guys kind of coming back into town... good to see the new guys come in and the old guys come back, so it's nice," Marchand told the media.

He's excited by all the additions made by the Bruins this summer, headed up by free agents Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm.

"Guys that fit the mold that we try to play... The size, the strength, the speed that they brought in, it's really exciting."

Marchand, 36, is heading into the final season of an 8-year, $6.125 million cap hit. And while an extension was supposedly in the offing this summer, there's been no word on where that stands.
