Bruins Rumors: Extension Coming For Jim Montgomery

The Boston Bruins have reportedly opened discussions with head coach Jim Montgomery regarding a contract extension, as confirmed by general manager Don Sweeney.

Montgomery, who is entering the final year of his current deal, has been instrumental in the team’s regular-season success since taking over in July 2022.

"There have been talks, but I think Monty would take the approach of keeping that between us," Sweeney shared during a media session, indicating both sides are engaged but staying discreet about the details.

Montgomery's tenure with the Bruins has been marked by impressive regular-season performance, including a record-setting 65-12-5 campaign in 2022-23, which earned him the Jack Adams Award.

With a two-season record of 112-32-20, Montgomery has integrated young talent such as Jeremy Swayman, Trent Frederic, and Mason Lohrei into prominent roles in the Bruins' lineup while maintaining a successful record.

Despite their regular-season dominance, the Bruins have had playoff disappointments, exiting in early rounds in both 2023 and 2024, something Montgomery will be eager to address in the coming season.

Addressing the contract talks, Montgomery downplayed any potential distractions, emphasizing his love for the Bruins and his commitment to staying focused.

"It doesn't matter if I had an eight-year contract or a one-day contract. That's the way I proceed," he said.

While no deal has been finalized yet, there is optimism from both sides about reaching an agreement, ensuring Montgomery remains at the helm as the team gears up for another season.
