Buffalo Sabres Name Rasmus Dahlin New Captain

The Buffalo Sabres have their new leader, as the Atlantic Division club has announced that superstar defenseman Rasmus Dahlin will now be their captain.

Dahlin created a lot of chatter as a prime captain candidate for the Sabres this offseason. Now, it has officially come to fruition, and the 2018 first-overall pick will now be the club's top leader as they look to take that next step and become a playoff team again.

The Sabres have not had a captain since they traded recently retired Kyle Okposo to the Florida Panthers before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline passed. However, Dahlin is now changing that and should hold the role for several seasons. He is under contract until the completion of the 2031-32 season, after all.

In addition to naming Dahlin their new captain, the Sabres also announced their alternate captains for the upcoming season. Alex Tuch, Dylan Cozens, Tage Thompson, and Mattias Samuelsson will all be alternate captains for the Sabres from here.

It will now be a blast to see how the Sabres perform with Dahlin as their captain. This is a team on the rise, and Dahlin and the club's alternate captains will now aim to help them take that next step from here.
