Calgary Flames Sign Tyson Barrie to PTO

According to PuckPedia, the Calgary Flames are signing veteran defenseman Tyson Barrie to a professional tryout (PTO) agreement.

Barrie, 33, is one of the best free agents who has yet to land a contract for the 2024-25 season. However, after securing this PTO with the Flames, he is now another step closer to changing that.

Barrie had been linked to his former team, the Edmonton Oilers, but he has now instead landed a PTO with the team on the other side of the Battle of Alberta. That certainly should get the fans talking.

However, when looking at the Flames’ defense, they could be a good fit for Barrie if he earns a contract. The right side of the Flames’ defense could use a boost, and they would benefit by adding another puck-moving defender. Thus, with a strong training camp, Barrie could make a real case for himself to land a contract with the Flames.

Barrie appeared in 41 games last season with the Nashville Predators, where he had one goal, 15 points, and a minus-10 rating. Overall, it was a shaky year for the veteran defenseman, and it will be intriguing to see if he gets the chance to have a bounce-back year with the Flames from here.
