Carolina Hurricanes to Sign Sam Gagner to PTO

According to PuckPedia, the Carolina Hurricanes are signing veteran forward Sam Gagner to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.

Gagner, 35, played last season with the Edmonton Oilers, where he had five goals to go along with 10 points and a minus-2 rating. He also played in 15 games this past season with the Bakersfield Condors, where he had three goals, six assists, and a minus-1 rating.

With the Hurricanes losing a good chunk of their forward depth this summer, it makes sense that they are taking a chance on a veteran like Gagner. If he impresses during his PTO and gets a contract for the 2024-25 season, he would give them another serviceable option for their bottom six. This is especially so when noting that Gagner is a very versatile player who can play both down the middle and on the wing.

Gagner is one of the most recognizable players without a contract heading into next season, but now he is another step closer to changing that after earning this PTO with the Canes. It will be very interesting to see if he can end up securing a contract with the Metropolitan Division club from here.
