Dallas Stars Sign Esa Lindell to Big Extension

The Dallas Stars have made a major move, as they have signed defenseman Esa Lindell to a five-year, $26.25 million contract extension ($5.25 million average annual value).

Lindell was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. However, the Stars now do not need to worry about that possibility any longer, as they have locked up their key defenseman with this big extension.

Lindell, 30, appeared in 82 games this past season with the Stars, where he had five goals to go along with 26 points, 74 hits, and a plus-17 rating. Overall, it was another very solid season for the 6-foot-3 defenseman, and he has now earned this nice contract extension because of it.

With this move, Lindell will continue to be a very important part of the Stars' top four as they look to win the Stanley Cup during their championship window. He will also remain an important part of their penalty kill.

In 604 career NHL games, all with the Stars, Lindell has 49 goals, 142 assists, 191 points, 807 hits, and 1,100 blocks. It will be very interesting to see what his career stats look like once this contract extension reaches it completion.
