Devils Decision Indicates They Will Start Season Without Brett Pesce

The New Jersey Devils made a couple of big splashes this offseason, one of them being the free agent signing of defenseman Brett Pesce from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Now, the Devils will be forced to start the season without Pesce, as he has been week-to-week throughout training camp, and now the team has left him behind as they travel to Prague to start the season this Friday as part of the NHL Global Series.

Pesce, 29, suffered a fractured fibula in Game 2 of Carolina's first-round playoff series against the New York Islanders back in April. He is still in the final stages of his recovery, and it's unknown if he'll be ready for the Devils' home opener back in North America on October 10th.

The blueliner resumed skating a few days ago which was certainly an encouraging step.

He had three goals, 13 points and 113 blocks in 70 regular-season games with Carolina in 2023-24.

Seamus Casey did make the trip to Prague, indicating that the 20-year-old former second-rounder has a huge opportunity in front of him, while Pesce continues his recovery.
