Dylan Ferguson Cut Loose By Canucks, Immediately Lands New Gig

Goaltender Dylan Ferguson was brought in by the Vancouver Canucks on a PTO to help fill the void between the pipes at camp while Thatcher Demko battles to recover from his knee injury. But the signing of UFA Kevin Lankinen over the weekend signalled a quick end to Ferguson's time in Vancouver, and they released him.

The 26-year-old BC-born netminder has quickly found a new gig, however, as he's signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Wild's AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild.

It's a one-year, one-way AHL contract for Ferguson, who has returned to North America after spending last season with Minsk of the KHL in Russia. There, he posted a 9-9 mark in 23 games with a .904 save percentage and a 2.51 goals-against average.

He last played in the NHL for the Ottawa Senators, getting into two games in the 2022-23 season, and posted a .940 Sv% with a 2.52 GAA. His only other NHL appearance was in his rookie year of 2017-18 when he played just nine minutes for the Vegas Golden Knights.

Ferguson has spent most of his time since being drafted in the 7th round in the 2017 Draft by playing in the AHL. He's suited up for four different AHL teams, while also spending a bit of time in the ECHL.

With top goaltending prospect Jesper Wallstedt apparently earning a promotion to a three-goalie setup in Minnesota this season, Ferguson will likely vie for time in Iowa as a backup to 35-year-old AHL veteran Troy Grosenick.
