Edmonton Oilers Sign Mike Hoffman to PTO

The Edmonton Oilers have added to their training camp roster, as they have signed Mike Hoffman to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.

Hoffman, 34, is one of the top free agents left without a contract. However, he is now one step closer to potentially landing one after securing this PTO with the Oilers.

Hoffman spent this past season with the San Jose Sharks, where he had 10 goals to go along with 23 points in 66 games. Overall, it was a bit of a down year for the Kitchener, Ontario native, but he is now hoping that he will get the chance to have a bounce-back season by landing a contract with the Oilers.

The Oilers could use a bit more forward depth, so there is no harm in them taking a shot on Hoffman with this PTO. If he performs well during it and earns a contract, he could be a decent addition to the Oilers' top nine and second power-play unit.

In 745 career NHL games split between the Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, and Sharks, Hoffman has 228 goals, 259 assists, and 487 points. It will be intriguing to see if he will get a contract and the opportunity to improve upon his career stats with the Oilers from here.
