Flyers Rumors: 2 Young Players To Get Contract Extensions Before Season End

According to Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, the Philadelphia Flyers are expected to extend contracts for key young players Cam York and Tyson Foerster before the end of the upcoming season.

York, being slightly older and more experienced, is likely to receive his extension first, especially if he continues to solidify his role on the Flyers' blue line.

His development has been a bright spot, and management is eyeing a mid-season extension, similar to the deal Owen Tippett secured last year.

Last season, the 23-year-old recorded 10 goals, 30 total points, a -13 plus/minus rating, 174 blocked shots, and 76 hits across 82 games played.

Foerster, who impressed towards the end of last season, could also earn an extension if he gets off to a strong start and proves his value in significant minutes under head coach John Tortorella.

The 22-year-old Foerster has put up 23 goals and 17 assists for 40 total points over 85 games played in his NHL career.

While the Flyers focus on securing their young talent, they are taking a cautious approach, allowing York and Foerster more time to show their full potential before committing to long-term deals.

As part of that process, the Flyers may look to free up salary cap space by potentially trading Joel Farabee, whose $5 million cap hit through 2027-28 could make him expendable if the team seeks greater financial flexibility.
