Flyers Rumors: Maple Leafs’ RFA Nick Robertson “Makes Sense” For Flyers

Are the Philadelphia Flyers done with their summer business, or is there one more intriguing move they could try to make?

According to Jonathan Bailey of Philly Hockey Now, a move to add restricted free agent Nick Robertson from the Toronto Maple Leafs "makes sense" for the up-and-coming Flyers.

Robertson, turning 23 next week, has been a tantalizing prospect for the Leafs since he first broke onto the scene in the 2020 playoffs. Unfortunately, injuries and roster crunch situations have led to him being frustrated with his opportunities in Toronto, and now as an RFA, he's insisted he won't re-sign with the Leafs and wants a trade.

For now, that's not something that GM Brad Treliving is jumping to do, but Bailey lays out why Robertson would make sense for Philly:
Robertson’s Eliteprospects profile describes the young left winger as “. . . an offensive dynamo with a very high level of individual skill. His feet are quick and constantly in motion,” and “. . . extremely hard on the forecheck, relentless in puck pursuit, and a big-time trash talker,” making him a perfect fit for the Flyers’ needs.

Bailey then goes on to point out Robertson's familiarity with Flyers defenseman Cam York and forward Bobby Brink from the USA U20 team, noting that adding the former second-rounder "would bring an element of familiarity to an already tight-knit Flyers locker room".

One drawback in Bailey's plan, however, is just where Robertson would play. With Matvei Michkov, Travis KonecnyJoel Farabee, Owen Tippett and Tyson Foerster in addition to Brink already on hand, that's a full house on the wing.

And then there's the fact that Treliving will not be just giving him away.

But for a new situation and a fresh start, surrounded by plenty of talent, if the Flyers could find a way to fit him into their lineup, Robertson could do a lot worse than Philly for a new landing spot.
