Longtime NHL Defenseman Alex Goligoski Announces Retirement

According to the Athletic's Joe Smith, longtime NHL defenseman Alex Goligoski is retiring from professional hockey.

Goligoski, 39, spent this past season with the Minnesota Wild, where he had zero goals, 10 assists, and a minus-8 rating in 36 games. The 5-foot-11 defenseman was still one of the more recognizable free agents left on the market, but he has now elected to retire.

Goligoski spent 17 seasons in the sport's best league and put together a solid career in the process. In 1,078 career NHL games split between the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dallas Stars, Arizona Coyotes, and Wild, he had 87 goals, 388 assists, 475 points, 1,164 hits, and a plus-55 rating.

Goligoski also has a Stanley Cup on his resume, as he was a part of the Pittsburgh Penguins' 2009 winning team.

Nevertheless, Goligoski had himself a nice and long career at the NHL level. We here at NHL Trade Rumors wish him the best and hope that he has the happiest of retirements from here.
