Maple Leafs Rumors: Analyst Calls On Toronto To Bring Back James Van Riemsdyk

Analyst and former NHL defenseman Frankie Corrado has urged the Toronto Maple Leafs to consider reuniting with free agent forward James van Riemsdyk.

Speaking on TSN 1050's OverDrive, Corrado emphasized van Riemsdyk's familiarity with the Leafs organization, having played for the team from 2012 to 2018, and spoke on his potential value in a depth role.

At 35 years old, van Riemsdyk may no longer be a top-line player, but Corrado believes his experience and scoring ability could provide contributions lower in the lineup, particularly on the second power-play unit, where the Leafs have struggled in the playoffs.

Van Riemsdyk is coming off a solid season with the Boston Bruins, where he recorded 11 goals and 27 assists for 38 points in 71 games.

Corrado sees the veteran winger as a smart, cost-effective addition for the Leafs, especially with the team needing depth scoring and cap space being limited.

With the uncertain future of restricted free agent Nick Robertson, the Leafs are exploring options at left wing, and Corrado believes van Riemsdyk’s leadership and ability to deliver in clutch situations could give the team an edge in the postseason.

Although other free agents, like Max Pacioretty, have been linked to the Leafs, Corrado insists van Riemsdyk’s familiarity with the organization and the Toronto market makes him an appealing choice.
