Maple Leafs Sign Goalie Jon Gillies

The Toronto Maple Leafs have brought another goaltender into camp, signing Jon Gillies to a PTO.

Gillies, if he's able to earn a full contract in camp, will still have a steep hill to climb to find any time on the big club, as four other netminders are ahead of him in Leaf land, in Joseph Woll, Anthony Stolarz, Matt Murray, and top prospect Dennis Hildeby.

The 36-year-old Gillies had appeared in 35 NHL games over four different seasons, with four different teams, but none in 2023-24.

He last played in three games in the NHL  for the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2022-23, posting a  4.57 goals against average and an .864 SV%. Overall, his NHL numbers leave much to be desired, with an 8-16-3 mark, a 3.39 GAA, and .891 SV% in 35 games.

Gillies, however, had been a fine option between the pipes in the American Hockey League, where he's compiled a 78-71-32 record in 184 games with a 2.94 GAA, .904 SV%, and nine shutouts.
