Nazem Kadri Unhappy In Calgary? Forward Says "Pump The Brakes"

Speculation about Nazem Kadri’s future with the Calgary Flames has intensified as the team enters the 2024-25 season with a much different roster.

Now entering his third training camp with the Flames, Kadri has found himself at the center of rumors questioning whether he’s happy playing for a team that’s retooling its roster.

With key players like Elias Lindholm, Chris Tanev, and Jacob Markström leaving, and after last season’s trade requests from Nikita Zadorov which led to an eventual trade, questions have arisen about whether Kadri, at 33, wants to spend his prime years on a team focusing on younger talent.

This speculation was fueled by reports, including one from TSN’s Darren Dreger last year, suggesting that Kadri might not be eager to endure a rebuild.

Kadri, however, has been quick to address the rumors, telling reporters at the opening of camp to “pump the brakes” on assumptions about his future.

"I love the city, I love the organization," he said, emphasizing his commitment to Calgary despite the roster changes.

Kadri acknowledged that questions would persist if the team continued to struggle but made it clear he believes in the group’s potential to surprise people.

"Let us go play, and we’re going to try to rally around each other," he remarked, shifting the focus to what happens on the ice rather than trade talk.

Despite the speculation, Kadri, along with other veterans like Blake Coleman and MacKenzie Weegar, has emphasized his desire to be part of the solution in Calgary.

Kadri’s no-movement clause also gives him control over his future, allowing him to stay committed to the team for now, even as trade rumors continue to swirl.
