New Timeline for Evander Kane Revealed After Surgery

Edmonton Oilers' gritty forward Evander Kane had his expected surgery on Thursday, and according to insider Elliotte Friedman, he'll be out for at least four months.

He had surgeries to repair several injuries, which he revealed this weekend:

“I’m having a lot done, both abductors on each hip, two torn lower abominable muscles done and two hernias,” said Kane.

With the 33-year-old expected to be out until January or February, the team now has the option of placing the power forward and his $5.125 million cap hit on long-term injured reserve (LTIR), giving them plenty of roster flexibility.

This does not impact the Oilers' potential ability to take on salary at the trade deadline, however, as Kane, if all goes well, should be back before March.

Kane played through many injuries, including a sports hernia for much of last season, appearing in 77 regular season games, but then finally succumbing and being dropped out of the lineup for five games in the Stanley Cup Finals.

“I felt something was wrong in late October [last season]," said Kane, "and just kind of slowly got worse over time.”

The hard-nosed winger notched 24 goals and 20 assists for 44 points last season, along with a career-high 250 hits, incredible considering the ailments he was dealing with.
