New York Islanders Sign Matt Martin to PTO

The New York Islanders have added to their training camp roster, as they have signed forward Matt Martin to a professional tryout (PTO) agreement.
Martin, 35, is certainly a very familiar face to the Islanders, as he has played 13 of his 15 NHL seasons with the Metropolitan Division club over two stints. In addition, Martin played each of the last six seasons with the Islanders and is now looking to change that to seven.

Martin played in 57 games this past season with the Islanders, where he had four goals, eight points, 43 penalty minutes, and 151 hits on the year.

When noting that Martin has been a solid part of the Islanders' bottom six and leadership group over the last several seasons, it makes sense that they are giving him another shot with a tryout. He will look to impress at training camp and during the preseason, as it will help his chances of continuing his tenure with the organization from here.

In 955 career NHL games split between the Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs, Martin has 81 goals, 95 assists, 176 points, 1,158 penalty minutes, and 3,849 hits. It will be very interesting to see if he gets the chance to build on his career stats this upcoming season with the Islanders from here.
