Patrik Laine Part of Double-Injury Debacle Suffered by Canadiens

It was not a good night for the Montreal Canadiens. Their exhibition game Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs was marred by knee injuries to both Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher.

Both Laine and Reinbacher were seen leaving the Bell Centre wearing articulated knee braces and walking with the aid of crutches.

Laine's injury, in particular, looked like it could be a big problem, as he took a high-speed knee-on-knee hit.

Insider Elliotte Friedman reports that head coach Martin St. Louis was still in the dark after the game about the seriousness of the injuries.

“Hopefully, it’s not too serious," was all St. Louis could say about Laine. The 26-year-old is a former 2nd overall pick (2016 NHL Draft) who the Habs acquired this summer in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he was already having a blast in his fresh new situation. He is hoping to return to his 30-goal-scoring ways of his first few years in the league.

Reinbacher was the 5th overall pick by Montreal in the 2023 Draft, and the 19-year-old calm, cool and collected D-man had high hopes of making the jump to the NHL come opening night.

We'll have to wait on updated reports as the two continue to be evaluated by medical staff.
