Predators Rumors: Barry Trotz May Trade One Of Two Talented Young Forwards

Barry Trotz and the Nashville Predators are facing a tricky situation as training camp approaches, with limited cap space and two key restricted free agents, Philip Tomasino and Juuso Parssinen, still unsigned.

With just over $3 million in cap space, Trotz may be forced to choose between the two young forwards. Tomasino, a former first-round pick with significant offensive potential, has struggled to fully embrace the aggressive playing style demanded by head coach Andrew Brunette.

Questions about Tomasino's commitment to the team's identity have complicated his contract negotiations, with reports suggesting he may be seeking a salary in the $1.5 to $2 million range.

On the other hand, Parssinen offers a more reliable depth option, capable of playing both center and wing, and is seen as a safer bet for the Predators' bottom-six roles.

His physical style of play and versatility align well with the team's current needs, and he is reportedly more willing to accept a team-friendly deal around $1 million.

Parssinen's affordability makes him a more attractive option for Trotz, especially after the team's offseason spending spree that left them up against the cap.

Last season, the 23-year-old Tomasino recorded seven goals and 13 assists for 20 total points across 41 games played.

Parssinen, also 23, put up eight goals and four assists for 12 total points across 44 games played last year, his second season.

Given these financial constraints and the need to balance the roster, it is increasingly likely that the Predators may move one of these promising young players.
