Predators Rumors: Nashville GM had 5 trade offers for Yaroslav Askarov

Once the Nashville Predators received a formal trade request from goaltending prospect Yaroslav Askarov, it didn't take long for trade talks to escalate and eventual land the Russian netminder in San Jose.

According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, the Predators GM Barry Trotz heard from five teams regarding trade interest including the Sharks, Philadelphia Flyers, Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and Montreal Canadiens.

Askarov, 22, wasn't thrilled with Trotz after it was announced prior to training camp that Askarov was headed to start the season in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals. Nashville's GM had been busy throughout the summer signing backup Scott Wedgewood and extending starter Juuse Saros to an eight-year deal.

Askarov then asked to be dealt, stating he's not an AHL netminder and should be in line for NHL minutes. He's only appeared in three NHL games since being selected 11th overall at the 2020 NHL Draft, posting a 1-1-0 record with a 2.57 GAA and .914 Sv.%. Askarov meanwhile posted a 30-13-1 record with the Admirals last season, along with an impressive 2.39 GAA and .911 Sv.%.

The eventual trade included the Sharks acquiring Askarov, center Nolan Burke, and a 2025 third-round draft pick in exchange for center David Edstrom, goaltender Magnus Chrona and a 2025 first-round pick.

Askarov heads into camp with the Sharks looking to outduel Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek for the starter's crease.
