Report: James van Riemsdyk to sign PTO before training camps open

According to hockey insider Chris Johnston, veteran left-winger James van Riemsdyk is in talks with clubs regarding a professional tryout agreement and he's expected to make a decision to sign a PTO before training camps open next week.

van Riemsdyk, 35, appeared in 71 games for the Boston Bruins last season, scoring 11 goals and finishing the regular season with 38 points. He also dressed in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games, chipping in with one goal and five points.

While he's not the fleetest of foot, JVR is a high-character option for a number of teams and could spot in on the third-line and be a top-six option should an injury occur. He's made a living parking himself at the front of the net on the power play and can certainly help boost secondary scoring.

Some potential scenarios could be returning to Boston on a PTO, or joining one of the Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils or New York Islanders.

With training camps opening in just over a week, look for JVR's next move to be announced in the next few days.
