Report: Linus Ullmark Talks On Hold “For Weeks or Months”

The Ottawa Senators made a big splash this offseason trading for a Vezina Trophy winner to man their crease, acquiring Linus Ullmark from the Boston Bruins. But the 31-year-old goaltender is entering the final year of his contract and is in line for an extension.

Would the Sens have surrendered a first-round pick in this year's draft (which turned out to be 6'7" center Dean Letourneau) if they weren't interested in keeping Ullmark long-term?

For now, any extension talks are on hold.

Chris Johnson said on TSN's Insider Trading that, yes, Ottawa certainly thinks highly of Ullmark and they would "love" to keep him long-term, but it could be a while before the two sides start talking turkey.
I think the strategy right now is to let this breathe a little bit, and give him time to get comfortable in the city and with his new team and broach those contract discussions somewhere weeks or months down the road.

We can only assume that Ullmark is happy with his new destination, as he confirmed that "Ottawa wasn't on my no-trade list, so there was nothing to waive."

Ullmark won the Vezina in 2022-23 with the Bruins and shared the Jennings Trophy with Jeremy Swayman as well. He has a career .918 save percentage and 2.51 goals against average. Last year with the Bruins, he posted 22-10-7 mark with a .915 Sv% with a 2.57 GAA.
