Robin Lehner Doesn't Show For Golden Knights Medical

Even a player who hasn't suited up for two seasons is required to report for medicals when training camps open. In the case of Vegas Golden Knights' former starting goalie Robin Lehner, he has failed to report, and the team is now considering terminating his contract, according to insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.

The 33-year-old netminder last played at the end of the 2021-22 season, then underwent hip surgery in the offseason, and has been out ever since. But the camp medical is mandatory, nevertheless, to confirm that he is, indeed, unfit to play.

Lehner has just one season left on his 5-year, $5 million AAV contract, and the Knights are looking into the possibility of getting out from under that. He has $4.5 million in actual salary owing for the coming year.

Vegas could, of course, simply place him on LTIR for the cap relief, but they would completely take the $5M cap hit off their books if they were to terminate his deal.

Lehner was a huge advocate for mental health and alcohol abuse discussions due to his own battles, and he has confirmed that he was enrolled in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

The Golden Knights are consulting with the NHL about their next steps in this developing story.
