Sabres Sign Peyton Krebs To Bridge Deal

The Buffalo Sabres and Peyton Krebs have finally come to an agreement on a two-year contract at $1.45 million AAV. This keeps the young forward from missing any important time in training camp and to avoid losing ground on the other bottom-6 players in the lineup also battling for playing time.

Krebs is a former first-round pick of the Vegas Golden Knights and hasn't lived up to that expectation yet. He is 23 years old, so there is still time, but he is also in a Sabres' lineup that has so much young talent. He came over in the Jack Eichel trade and has played two straight full seasons for Buffalo.

Krebs regressed last season and scored just four goals and 17 points in 80 games while averaging 12:30 per game. In 2022-23, he put up nine goals and 26 points. Both stat lines are indicative of a bottom-6 forward and there just isn't room for him to move up.

The two years at a relatively low AAV are perfect to give Krebs a decent chance at either taking a bigger step forward and proving he can do more in the NHL or stay in the pocket he's in. Right now, he is an NHL player and plays a physical game, so he can make a career for himself. This is a prove-it contract for Krebs and now that he has over 200 games of experience in the NHL, we'll see what he can do from here with the Sabres.
