Sharks Rumors: Mikael Granlund Becoming Prime Trade Candidate

The San Jose Sharks are in the middle of a big rebuild. Because of this, they have made a variety of trades over the last few seasons, and this is expected to carry over to the 2024-25 season.

When looking at the Sharks' current roster, one player who stands out as a prime trade candidate heading into the new campaign is veteran forward Mikael Granlund.

Granlund, 32, is entering the final season of his four-year, $20 million contract. With this, he is pending unrestricted free agent (UFA), which means he could be a very popular rental once we get closer to the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline.

Granlund is a player who has the potential to generate trade interest, as he is coming off a strong 2023-24 season. In 69 games for the Sharks this past season, the 5-foot-10 forward posted 12 goals to go along with 60 points. In addition, he can also play all three forward positions, so he could be a very good player for a playoff team to add to their middle six.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Granlund this season, but there is no question that he has the potential to be traded. Teams looking for more secondary offensive production are likely to pursue him.
