Update On Contract Dispute Between Bruins & Jeremy Swayman

The Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman remain locked in a contract dispute with less than two weeks until the regular season opener against the Florida Panthers.

Following last summer’s arbitration process, there was optimism for smoother negotiations this offseason as neither side filed for arbitration.

However, despite being expected to take over as the full-time starter after Linus Ullmark's trade to Ottawa, Swayman remains unsigned, creating growing concerns for the Bruins.

Both parties are aiming for a long-term deal, with Swayman reportedly seeking an eight-year contract in the range of $8.5 to $10 million AAV. Boston’s offer, however, is believed to be significantly lower, leaving the two sides at an impasse.

General Manager Don Sweeney has expressed frustration at the lack of progress, saying, “Goaltending has been our strongest position, and it could become our weakest if we don’t resolve this.”

The Bruins' preseason performances have furthered that concern, as backup Brandon Bussi and Michael DiPietro have struggled with consistency.

Bussi, while showing potential, has battled rebound control issues, and DiPietro has allowed soft goals in his limited appearances.

Joonas Korpisalo, expected to serve as Swayman’s backup, has been solid but has played sparingly, further emphasizing the need to resolve the Swayman situation before the season starts.

With challenging October matchups against playoff contenders like the Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, and Carolina Hurricanes, the Bruins risk falling behind in the standings if they can’t solidify their goaltending.

Swayman, who posted a .916 save percentage last season and ranked fifth in the NHL in goals saved above expected, is crucial to their success.

His absence from camp is no longer just a contract issue—it’s a growing on-ice problem that Boston needs to address quickly.
