Vancouver Canucks Sign Kevin Lankinen to One-Year Deal

The Vancouver Canucks have signed goaltender Kevin Lankinen to a one-year, $875,000 contract.

The Canucks have been heavily linked to Lankinen over the last few weeks, and now they finally have landed their guy. With this move, the Canucks have added some much-needed goalie depth before the start of the season.

With star goaltender Thatcher Demko injured, the Canucks absolutely needed to add some depth between the pipes. Now, they have added a solid netminder in Lankinen who should take a little more pressure away from rookie Arturs Silovs.

It is a bit surprising that it has taken Lankinen this long to get a contract for the season. The 29-year-old is coming off a solid year with the Nashville Predators, where he had an 11-6-0 record, a .908 save percentage (SV%), and a 2.82 goals-against average (GAA) in 24 games. This was after he had a 9-8-1 record, a .916 SV%, and a 2.75 GAA in 19 appearances for the Predators in 2022-23.

Lankinen now gives the Canucks an experienced NHL goaltender to work with Silovs while Demko is sidelined. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact he can make for the Canucks from here.
