3 Bold Predictions for the Boston Bruins '24-25 Season

The Boston Bruins continue to be one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference. GM Don Sweeney re-tooled his roster throughout the summer months, bringing in Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov on multi-year contracts.

The Bruins defense core is among the biggest in the league, meanwhile their top two lines will be among the most productive. There's certainly question marks surrounding their depth up front and with Jeremy Swayman still unsigned, there's a ton of pressure on Joonas Korpisalo to prove he can handle the work load until a deal is signed with Swayman.

Here's three bold predictions for the Bruins this season:

Swayman Signs Mega Deal to Stay in Boston

Despite the public dispute, which included team president Cam Neely getting involved, the Bruins and Swayman will eventually come to terms on a long-term contract extension. He's proven throughout his career that he's more than capable of handling the starter's crease and while last year was more of a tandem approach, look for Swayman to eventually take over and push Korpisalo to a more traditional backup role. While it may not seem likely right now, the Bruins and Swayman will figure things out and get a deal completed.

Matthew Poitras Hits 50 Points

One of the Bruins core players for their next wave of talent, Poitras burst on the scene in 2023-24, recording 15 points in 33 games. He showcased his sky-high hockey IQ and his attention to both sides of the puck, which will win over the coaching staff this season. Look for Poitras to get second-line minutes this season and if he gets off to a strong start, will find himself finishing the season with at least 50 points. Poitras is one of the Bruins' best play-makers and will give the franchise something to look forward to, at just 20 years old.

Brandon Bussi Secures Backup Role

Korpisalo was awful in Ottawa last year and so far throughout the preseason has looked average at best. The 26-year-old Bussi is going to get a chance to prove himself this season and will wind up finishing the season as the team's backup netminder heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Bussi's yet to make his NHL debut, but that should be coming in the next week or so, and after a 23-10-5 record last season in Providence, he'll become of the team's  biggest surprises this season. The question will then become, what to do with Korpisalo.
