3 Head Coaches on the Hot Seat in 2024-25

The 2024-25 NHL season is right around the corner and this year, there's a number of head coaches who are entering the new campaign with a ton of pressure for their teams to perform.

Every year there's a team or two who get off to horrible starts which end up costing someone their job. This season will be no different.

Here's three head coaches who are on the hot seat in 2024-25:

Mike Sullivan, Pittsburgh Penguins

While GM Kyle Dubas has always said the right things, there's no doubt he'd love to bring in one of 'his guys' to Pittsburgh. The Penguins have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in two straight seasons, and considering their roster, that's not an option this season. Sullivan has the second longest tenure in the league and with a core that's aging and looking for one more run at the Stanley Cup, the heat is on!

Derek Lalonde, Detroit Red Wings

Lalonde is entering his third season behind the bench in Motown and barely missed the playoffs last season. The team is essentially the same, with a couple of new additions up front and in goal with Cam Talbot now leading the way. GM Steve Yzerman has been patient but there's no doubt he's looking for his team to take a giant step forward this season. Detroit has missed the playoffs in eight straight years, if that's the case this year, Lalonde may not be the only one shown the door.

Andre Tourigny, Utah HC

Tourigny was hired in 2021 and with a new owner and a new vibe being in Utah, the pressure is on to perform. Tourigny is beloved by the team and has a good rapport as a player's coach, but there's no doubt owner Ryan Smith wants a competitive team who at least sniff the playoffs this season. If Utah gets off to a bad start, it could cost Tourigny his job.
