3rd Time Placed On Waivers This Week for Oilers' Raphael Lavoie

It's been a tough week for Edmonton Oilers forward Raphael Lavoie. He's been placed on waivers for the third time in less than a week, as it's becoming apparent he just doesn't fit on the Oilers roster at the moment.

The 24-year-old was first placed on waivers by Edmonton on Sunday, whereby he was then claimed by the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday before they put him back on waivers on Tuesday. The Oilers re-claimed him on Wednesday with the hopes of sending him back down to the minors. But they weren't able to do so, since another team with a lower waiver priority based on last season’s standings (i.e. a team that finished above them) also put in a claim.

So it was right back onto the waiver wire for Lavoie on Thursday, with the hope that no one puts in a claim again this time.

The Oilers would like to keep him as an organizational depth piece, as the 6'4", 215-pounder has fared well the past couple of seasons in the AHL. He produced 28 goals and 50 points in 66 games last year with the Bakersfield Condors, and 25 goals and 45 points in 61 games the year before. But he's only managed to play in seven games with the Oilers.

Lavoie was selected 38th overall by the Oilers, in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft,

Meanwhile, the 2024-25 edition of the team has more than just Lavoie to concern themselves with, as for the second straight season they've been embarrassed on opening night, this time with a 6-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, while Lavoie watched from the press box.
